Forget about the stock market, Swine Influenza and take a look at this evocative glimpse into the past. Not only has the artist captured the true essence of innocence, but it’s image is so profound that it transports us back in time. Can you remember not having a care in the world? I can. No double entendres, no sexual innuendos… life was simple and pure. The times when summer meant waking up to your favorite cartoons, swimming all day and playing outside with your friends until mom called you in for dinner. Then after quickly wolfing down your food, you’d run back outside (always forgetting to close the screen door) and play some more. You’d play until the sun went down or until your mom called out your name so many times you could no longer pretend not to hear her.
Remember when happiness could be derived from something as simple as finding the prize in the bottom of a cereal box, peeling open a fresh pack of baseball cards or hitting the fat kid with glasses in the face with the dodge ball?
Living on the edge was playing with matches, sneaking peeks at Dad’s poorly hidden Playboy collection and using a magnifying glass to burn ants on the playground.
You’re biggest fears were missing the ice cream man, going into the basement by yourself and the way objects in your bedroom seemed to shift shapes in the shadows as soon as the lights went out. Something that always scared me was the local convenience store and the large Hawaiian man with the gimp arm who worked the register. l was terrified of getting caught but there was something special about riding my BMX (with my buddy on the handlebars) to the store and shoplifting candy that made it all worth while. Bazooka chewing gum never tasted so good.
Have a great week,
Dopey
